"Master In His Own Right"
: David, Robbie-Doctor, Master
Where: Fob!watch verse
When: A trip to an ice planet to escape the Force Police separates David and Eleven

Well, Rose wasn't wrong.  The grass smelled exactly like apples.  After waving the TARDIS off, David flung himself down into the verdant field and spread out, eyes closed in bliss.  The Doctor would return for him shortly, after he saved the world, and then they'd go exploring.

Two hours passed.  Three. Six.

His stomach growled.  After eight hours, he simply could not lie in the grass any longer.  It was dark out now and he needed to eat and find a place to stay.  He was lucky that the Doctor dropped him off at New New Earth over fifty years before the incident Rose described with her own Doctor.  The city was relatively safe to wander in.

When he'd asked the Doctor to drop him off, he'd asked for three things. One, his screwdriver for defence, which he'd gotten. Two, the books he hadn't finished, which were currently in his bag. And finally, that the Doctor wouldn't spy on him, bother him or seek him out till he was done.

And after teleporting half the way across the universe with a makeshift teleportation device and getting himself stuck in New New York, the Master had still been too stubborn to ask for help.

Even if he was reduce to stealing most of what he needed, not that he minded. It was fairly fun to outwit the shop keepers and take off before they caught him.

And there he was, slyly stealing what looked like a watermelon from the outdoor market and trying to hide it behind his back before he got caught.

By anyone, really.

David had seen, made friends with, and enemies of a good many people that looked rather like the man slowly backing towards him with a melon in his hands.

Blinking owlishly, David backed up as well. If he didn't know better, Sam/Harry/the Master had just taken that from the cart. Not Sam then. That man was all 'law' all the time. Hm. Harry was on Earth. And this one was blond.

"Hello, Master!"

Big. Dumb. Grin.

"Need a wee bit o' help there?"

The Master paused. Completely still. Before he slowly turned to look behind him and ... yep. The Doctor. The Doctor was here. When he promised he wouldn't be. Looking like a right idiot. And, as if all that wasn't bad enough, drawing attention to him by proclaiming his name.

"You. Promised. You. Wouldn't. Come."

Each word was growled out slowly as he continued to back up, trying his best to keep his tone down to avoid attracting any further attention.

"Go away!"

And like that, the Master took off running. Melon and all!

"Well, I did promise to stay in the field, but the Doctor was only suppose to be gone for two hours and I must say, bit hungry so...hey!" Off went the Master and so too, off went David. "Come back!"

Pumping his arms, David very easily overtook the Master and then fell into a jog with him.

"Didn't mean t'bother, yanno? I'm jus' waitin' til he gets back from savin' the world."

The Master had no idea what on Earth David was talking about, it made no sense! He was the Doctor, why was he talking about himself in third person? Sometimes he wondered which one of them was meant to be the mad one.

Slowing to a halt just inside an alleyway, he gave David a small look of confusion.

"I have no idea what you're talking about this time but we had a deal. I wouldn't take your pets body or do any harm and you would leave me be. This isn't leaving me be!"

Glaring, he held the melon protectively, as if David was going to nick it from him.

"Generally," David said, accent as thick as ever, "I wouldn't admit to being confused as that tends to be when my wallet gets nicked, but I really am confused. What does this have to do with Aristotle?"

That was the only pet he currently had. Unless...

"Oh! Do you mean Galileo? Last time we met, that was the fish I had. Lost him, but that was only because the Doctor decided to give him away to someone that looks just like me, but happens to be completely human and so..."

David sucked in a breath.

"No, wait. I'm confusing myself. Let's start over. David McDonald. Very pleased to meet you again if you're the one I met once before. If not, pleased to meet you all over again!"

Standing in a stupid little shop was humiliating. They looked like tourist! And-- and was he trying to buy something for that stupid lying eyeball contraption.

"Nothing, I doubt it'd want anything. Its so stupid, its probably just content to be alive."

Many an hour was spent watching Harry and Blue frolic together while he watched in horror. What had his life come too? It was painful and he had to look somewhat interesting to humour David.

After all, telling him off like a naughty child would get him no where.

"It is awfully frightening," David murmured, misunderstanding what the Master wanted. "I've no idea why Harry likes it. He's always yelling at it for telling his secrets!"

And thus, David went off for the next twenty minutes on Harry, mostly bad mouthing him.

"And can you believe it? He hates me for being just what he is! I can't help being me, just like he can't help being him! Evidently, it's all just fine for him to be in another Master's body! But me? Oh, I might've kicked his dog! How's this shirt?"

Date: 2010-11-27 10:09 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile]
"I believe thats my body Harry has," the Master admitted, shoving his hands into his pockets and nodding idly at the shirt. Did David not grasp the full extent of everything that was happening? Perfect!

That made all this so much easier.

"You can't blame Harry, the Doctor got into his head. He does that. Harry was-- he's not meant to be, you understand? He was never meant to exist, he is solely for the Doctor to amuse himself. Its wrong."

He tried his very best to look definite. even hurt. If there was anything he could do, it was not only look down right emotional when he wanted to but he was a naturally charming bloke.

"Sorry. Its not your problem. We should be enjoying ourselves, yes? I'm away from him so its all alright. I like you better anyhow."

Lies. He'd rather have the Doctor, at least he was an intellectual equal.

David blinked, almost looking horrified. "That's what you meant back on the street. The Doctor's pet...he somehow was able to separate you out and..." David's hands went to his mouth in horror. "Oh God, and the Doctor told me you were dangerous..."

It was starting to make sense. The problem was, he was making sense in the completely incorrect way!

David yelped very, very softly and wrapped his arms around the Master. "I'm sorry. I'm so very sorry." If only he didn't sound Scottish, he'd be exactly the Doctor. "We'll sort it out together."

No one should be anyone's play thing!

Oh great, hugs. He never much liked close personal contact but he had to play the role. His arms wrapped tight around David and hugged him back, trying to seem in some way into this whole hugging rubbish.

"You say that but you're just human. Sort of. You can't meddle in the affairs of Time Lords," the Master lectured before pulling back and placing his hands on Davids shoulders.

"Besides, its too late. The Doctors won. Harry is under his spell and I am in exile, hiding from him. I don't want to go back into the watch, I have to stay away."

He was whispering now, like it was some sort of hush conspiracy they had to keep between them. Which it was, he didn't need David running off and ruining his plans.

He could play David so easily, hell he might be able to turn him on Harry and his stupid blue ball!

Oh God! He'd known all along that the Doctor was evil. Useless! And he'd let the man smooze him! "Oh, I've been a fool," David whispered, hands to his cheeks as he let the Master go. "He was nice, saying nice things, but he took me away from Harry...most likely just to wait until the Doctor could take me back over too and..."

David was going to cry.

No. Not going to. The big idiot was in tears, turning away as he whimpered and whined and tried to hide it again.

"What can we do? What can we do, Master?" And now, everyone was looking. Mostly because of the way David called his title.

"Well yes, obviously, I already knew that. the problem is that to fix it would cost loads and it'd just be easier to build a new one, wouldn't it?"

The Master was a bit snappier than the Doctor, in fact, it was becoming more and more obvious how similar Harry and the Master were. Both arrogant, spiteful, selfish and hated being shown up. It wasn't on purpose, it just happened.

It was fortunate the Master actually had redeeming qualities that both he and Harry could share.

Just a little rough around the edges.

"We'll fix it tomorrow and see how well it works. Who knows, if I can get it going, I know somewhere I can get you a body, its where I got mine."

David just sort of stared at the Master. The Doctor promised to get him a body too, but had been unable to figure out how. The Master was living proof that it was possible. Just the thought of it left David giddy and he pulled the blankets over him to stiffle his giggling before he annoyed the Master.

"Sounds perfect," he finally managed, but the Master was already asleep.

And the problem with humans was that...they needed a full eight hours.

David was restless after one. He napped a bit, but he wasn't tired and immediately got up out of bed and took to wandering.

From: [identity profile]
The Master woke up at the sound of David moving. He was a very light sleeper, even now, though one hour was no longer enough to keep him happy. He looked up, blinked around tiredly and tumbled back down into bed, too tired get up.

David was done, he couldn't move his body. Screw him.

He just wanted to stay in the warmth of his bed and sleep. Being human had several draw backs, such as being tired and his personal favourite, feeling such low temperatures.

No answer. David had just gotten finished dancing with a woman with six arms -- who nearly kissed him -- and bought the shirts he had wanted to before. Laden down with bags and an interest in following a mechanical dog that was chasing a mechanical squirrel led him really very far away from the Master.

In fact, he was nearly back where he started yesterday, which made him sigh.

Apple grass. No Doctor. The man really had abandoned him. Really had tricked him.

David needed to stop trusting people. If only he thought of that before he trusted the Master!

The Master didn't get up till well over an hour after David had left, still sluggish and half asleep as he stumbled around, asking if anyone had seen a 'tall Scottish idiot with hair like a hedgehog'.

Eventually he'd been directed along the masses of grass, still no sign of the pocketwatch.

Pulling his hands up into the sleeve of his jumper, he frowned and peered around.

"David? Where on Earth are you? I need to get some sleep and I can't with you running off!"

Oh, his name! Just down a little knoll, David had been laying in the grass on his back. When the Master called for him again, that hedgehog head immediately lifted right out of the green like a wave and bobbed serenely in the wind.

He lifted an arm and called the Master over, beaming brightly that the blond had come to find him.

"Maaaaaaster!" he called, and when the man arrived, David patted the long trench coat he had been wearing since his time with the Doctor on the ice world. "Come lay with me. It's gorgeous!"

Well that certainly would have stopped a lot of confusion! Instead, the Master got to die while being rained on by David's tears that kept on falling right up until his last breath. The taller man pulled the once Time Lord against his chest, rocking him back and forth as he nuzzled him and begged him to wake up.

"Please...please..." he whispered, no doubt giving the Master a stubble rash. "SOMEONE HELP US!"

Someone did eventually come to help, pulling the Master away from David to take him to the morgue. David was distraught and they let him ride with the body, covered in the Master's blood.

David was now stuck here. He knew no one. And he'd gotten his only friend killed.

From: [identity profile]
It wasn't till two hours later that the Master woke. And really, it was potentially a bad time. While David was being consoled by the mortician, the Masters body had been slipped in furnace, slowly being moved along so his remains could be burnt. It was apparently better for the environment.

There was stupidly loud crashes, a firm battle with the bonds holding him down and he only just managed to wriggle his way free just in time. His feet, however, were on fire.

"Gah!" Leaping around like a madman, the Master ripped off his shoes and tossed them across the room, panting in distress. Slowly looking up at the mortician and David, obviously still in shock from waking up, he simply made panting noises of horror. He couldn't explain himself, he couldn't think, he simply said the first thing he could.

"You--you--you almost burnt me alive!"

Date: 2010-11-28 03:30 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile]
The force of David's joy hurt. The larger man came barreling forward, gangly arms and porcupine hair looking quite the sight as he pounced on the Master and knocked him down.

"You were dead!" David wept openly. "Oh God, you were dead!" He was just so very, very happy to have him back again that he hardly heard the whimpered protests or cared that he was still covered in the blond's blood.

He'd ask his questions later, for now he was just overjoyed!

Date: 2010-11-28 03:41 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile]
The Master was stunned. He was just rebooting, his mind was slowly catching up, he was completely confused and David was crying. Huh? Oh God and he was pretty sure he was developing stubble rash from these stupid hugs.

"David. David. Get off. Now."

Trying to be as stern as he could, he shoved David off and peered across at the Mortician... who'd collapsed in shock at someone actually getting up after dying. The Master frowned before sighing and gripping onto the Doctor as he tried to get to his feet once more.

"God, I hate when this happens."

Date: 2010-11-28 04:02 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile]
David watched the Master stand, hardly able to believe his eyes, and nearly wrapped his arms around the blond's waist. " happens a lot?" he asked, lower lip trembling. "You've...d-d-died before?"

Well this was interesting. He'd never actually seen Jack die, he didn't even know something like this existed!

Still, he was quite happy, smiling through his tears.

"You're're remarkable! You saved me!"

"Well, his flat I'd guess," David said, glancing around to get his bearings. "Let's see...oh, we're not all that far, perfect!" Despite still feeling rather queasy, David led the Master up the street and around the corner with a smile.

This ought to be perfect. Harry wouldn't be pleased, not at first, but a body swap and a little reverse brain washing would get them all on the same page.

"Harry might actually be my friend!" he beamed. Silly, perhaps, but David was a bit silly no matter what.

"Oh yes, thrilling."

God, couldn't he just kill Harry? Or maybe he could reprogram him into a useless creature that just blindly followed after David? That would surely kill two birds with one stone and he could have the Doctor.

Then he could get his own back for everything that happened.

"I'm sure he will, once the horrors the Doctor has inflicted are gone, he'll be a much nicer person. Just like me!"
